Work Injury

If you suffer an injury at work or as a result of your job in Victoria, you are entitled to lodge a WorkCover claim. WorkCover insurance covers the cost of treatment if employees are injured or become ill because of their work. It is compulsory for all Victorian employers to have WorkCover insurance (through WorkSafe Victoria), and all employees are covered, regardless as to whether they are full time, part time or casual workers.

What are WorkCover claimable injuries?

WorkCover injuries refer to those injuries which occur during the course of performing work-related tasks in Victoria. Injuries in the workplace can occur from a variety of reasons such as repetitive motions, lifting something too heavy, accidents including slips and trips or spilling of chemicals.

Work injuries can result in significant effects to the body, such as:

  • Back pain

  • Knee pain

  • Neck pain

  • Shoulder pain

  • Repetitive strain injuries

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome

How can physiotherapy help with work injuries?

At Best Physiotherapy our focus is helping you get on top of your pain and returning to function. This includes your life outside of work as well as your job. In relation to your return to work, we will assess what doing your job requires and identify any functional limitations you may have. We will then address these limitations by working on your range of motion, mobility, strength and doing task specific training to ensure you get back to doing what you love. At Best Physiotherapy we will work with you to develop an individualised treatment plan which will guide you through the beginning to end stage of rehabilitation.

Treatment may include

  1. Manual therapy: Your physiotherapist may use hands-on techniques, such as massage, dry needling and joint mobilization, to help reduce pain and improve mobility.

  2. Exercise therapy: Your physiotherapist may prescribe exercises to help strengthen the affected area, work on any imbalances and improve flexibility.

  3. Education: Your physiotherapist may provide education on proper posture, ergonomics, and technique to help prevent further injury and promote healing.

  4. Worksite assessments and modifications: Your physiotherapist may conduct a worksite assessment and recommend modifications to your workstation or job duties to prevent further injury.

What can I expect during my physiotherapy treatment?

During your initial assessment you will receive a comprehensive assessment to determine the drivers of any pain or dysfunction. We will then work through your goals to make a rehabilitation plan. Rehabilitation is always individualised and varies from person to person. Sessions will generally last between 30 and 60 minutes and may include hands-on modalities such as massage, mobilisation or needling, as well as education, exercise therapy and functional goal related rehabilitation. We will closely monitor you throughout the rehabilitation journey, making any changes and adjustments to your rehabilitation plan as necessary.

What are the benefits of physiotherapy for work injuries?

  1. Pain relief: Physiotherapy can help to reduce pain and inflammation associated with work injuries.

  2. Improved mobility and function: Physiotherapy can help to improve the range of motion and flexibility of the affected area, allowing you to perform your job duties more effectively.

  3. Improved strength: Physiotherapy can help to improve the strength of the affected area which will help you cope with the loads your body is exposed to through heavy or repetitive activities at work.

  4. Faster return to work: Physiotherapy can help to speed up the healing process and get you back to work as soon as possible.

  5. Prevention of further injury: Physiotherapy can help to educate patients on proper posture, technique, and ergonomics to prevent further injury.
