Workstation Setups

The way you sit and work at your desk can have a significant impact on your physical health and overall productivity. With the right ergonomics and desk setup, you can reduce the risk of developing pain and musculoskeletal disorders as well as improving your work performance.

What is ergonomics?

Ergonomics is the science of designing and arranging workstations to fit the needs and capabilities of the people who use them. The goal of ergonomics is to optimize the work environment to improve productivity, reduce stress and strain on the body, and prevent work-related injuries.

Why is egonomics important in the workplace?

Working in an ergonomically optimized environment has many benefits such as:

  1. Reducing the risk of developing musculoskeletal disorders such as neck pain, back pain, and carpal tunnel syndrome.

  2. Improving work performance by reducing fatigue and increasing comfort.

  3. Reducing absenteeism due to work-related injuries.

  4. Increasing job satisfaction by providing a comfortable and safe working environment.

  5. Improving overall health and wellbeing.

How to set up your workplace desk for optimal ergonomics:

  1. Desk Height: Adjust your desk height so that your arms are parallel to the floor, and your wrists are straight when typing. Your feet should be flat on the floor or on a footrest.

  2. Chair Height: Adjust your chair height so that your thighs are parallel to the floor, and your feet are flat on the floor or on a footrest. The backrest should support the natural curve of your spine.

  3. Monitor Position: Position your monitor so that the line on the screen you read or type at is at eye level and at finger-tip distance away from you. Use a monitor stand or riser if needed. The screen should be tilted back slightly.

  4. Keyboard and Mouse Position: Keep your keyboard and mouse close to your body and at the same level as your elbows. Your keyboard should sit flat rather than on an angle with the feet up.

  5. Lighting: Position your desk near natural light sources or use adjustable lighting to reduce glare and eye strain.

  6. Take Breaks: Take short breaks every 30 minutes to stretch and move around
